TONY WALTON

 

 

 is a Director and Designer honored with 16 Tony Award nominations for his Broadway sets and costumes. Pippin; House of Blue Leaves; and Guys and Dolls won him the ‘Tony’.  Mary Poppins; The Boy Friend; The Wiz and Murder on the Orient Express earned him 5 Academy Award nominations, All That Jazz the ‘Oscar’ and Death of a Salesman the ‘Emmy’.  His productions as director include Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest, Coward’s After the Ball; Shaw’s Major Barbara; The Devil’s Disciple and Candida - all for the Irish Rep. And for the John Drew he has directed Orson Welles’ Moby Dick, Rehearsed starring Peter Boyle; Peter Shaffer’s Equus and Gift of the Gorgon both starring Alec Baldwin.  In 1991 he was elected to the Theatre Hall of Fame.
